MUSIC/SINGING

Music has always been a passion. In high school I taught myself to play the guitar and performed in a swing choir (Windjammers). During college I sang back-ups for a local rock band and minored in vocal music. I even made a demo "tape" (that's what they were called back then!) of three of my own songs. After college I sang with a Christian rock band and performed with the 3M Company's performance choir, "Music Makers."

In 2009 drummer and friend John Benedict asked if I'd help out with some backup vocals with my old band-mates. I did, and one of the songs, "Since I Met You," got some radio play (in France of all places) - and I was hooked again!

My Own Compositions

In April 2011, my husband and I recorded an upbeat version of The Rose. Special thanks to Mark Cameron and Scott Lundbeg. The Rose (Surrender version) is dedicated to my friends Paul and John, who believed in my ability even when I didn't, and to my husband Tim, who believes in everything about me!

TAIKO DRUMMING

The best way to describe this might be: "a cross between martial arts and banging on really BIG drums."

But as I've studied and practiced, it's become so much more.

Taiko is a Japanese-based art that is as much form and coordinated movement as actual drumming (which is why it appeals to me). It's very physical and high energy. I get a good workout when I play, but I am also part of a team effort.
